by Isaac Jacobs, rounded form, signed I. Jacobs Bristol, gilt with palmette pattern, and Greek-key pattern border.
Lazarus Jacobs founded the Temple Street Glassworks in Bristol in about 1760. Isaac first worked for his father, took over the business on his father’s death in 1796, and then opened his own ‘Non-Such’ Flint Glass Manufactory in new premises in 1805. He numbered George III among his many patrons. Examples of his work can be found in the Royal Collections and in Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery. Isaac Jacobs was the first manufacturer to individually sign his work. The economic recession caused by the Napoleonic Wars led to financial difficulties, and the works closed in 1820.
